Creating a Community of Regulated Learners

*For Educators in the Richmond, B.C. School District.

This workshop will suggest a pathway to a classroom community which honours and supports students by:

  1. creating common understandings (a classroom agreement) through norms,
  2. providing an introduction to social justice, beginning with a guided inquiry into the importance of names, and 
  3. exploring equity through an examination of outside recess. 

You will increase your understanding of these foundational elements of Social-Emotional Learning in the primary classroom and be able to start applying it on Monday morning. This workshop provides practical possibilities to enrich your inclusive classroom community.

You will receive four lesson plans and supporting materials which are part of a new program called “Reconnect, Recharge and Regulate” based on best practice and designed for the BC curriculum by the workshop presenters. These lessons are the first of four sections in this program which supports student growth and development. Topic One is designed for primary students to begin their journey toward mindfulness and regulation as well as the build the foundation for a caring classroom community.
